This recipe was skillful. I was too scared to add the habenero peppers since I thought it would make it likewise spicy for my guests. I added jalepeno peppers instead which did not add much flavor. Next time I set this recipe I am going to follow the directions 100% -- I think that it will plow out better.

I added craven boullion and replaced the tomatoes with Ro-Tel. Information technology was absolutely wonderful. Subsequently 7 years this is still highly requested. Depending on who's eating information technology I might exit out the habaneros, regular, mild or hot Ro-tel and always thicken information technology up with flour and chicken broth. Clears a stuffed olfactory organ better that whatsoever medication!
02/06/2002
This is actually good and so easy. I used HOT frozen light-green republic of chile instead of the canned and habanero. Served with tortillas. Yummy.
09/26/2008
Excellent beginning… I added 1 bunch cilantro, v greenish onions, juice of 3 limes and ii tbl. cider vinegar. If you tin, utilise fire roasted Hatch light-green chilies…. (I purchase one case of hot a year.. they freeze well).. I added iii cups….

Cracking stew! I used savory instead of marjoram. I also used two cans of Rotel. I added a can of cream of chicken soup and used about 3-4 T. of cornstarch to thicken it.
02/25/2005
This is skilful, but when I think of stew, I think of something thicker than this. All the flour did was make the broth very slightly opaque. Maybe the recipe needs a more precise amount of water or a water to flour ratio. I used ii serranos with seeds instead of habaneros, and this was but virtually right for me. It warmed my lips and the back of my throat without scalding anything. Overall, first-class combo of flavors. Served with Mexican cornbread and as well with Baked Tostitos. I liked information technology amend with the Tostitos, simply my cornbread was a little too moist for this soup. Information technology needs a dry out bread.
02/04/2002
Couldn't locate the habaneros, then substituted fresh jalapenos instead. Was surprised that information technology wasn't also hot for those who couldn't handle actually spicy food. The family unit raved over it! This will definitely be a repeated recipe
03/17/2005
I have changed the proper name of this to "Spicy Chicken Soup". Information technology was definitely not a stew, but a succulent soup. I added cilantro, rice, and two jalapenos instead of the habanero peppers. This actually reminded me of mexican soup. The just thing missing was avocado strips which would have been perfect. The flavour of the chicken was very proficient. We ate lots of it while shredding for the soup.

Loved humid the chicken in the spices, approx 9 cups water for 4 lbs, added a little chicken bouillion for richer goop . I used chicken thighs and cooked w/hat on, it only took about 45 min. Wasnt scared of the habaneros even tho I tin can't handle the heat! Used 2 cans Rotel instead of fresh tomatoes. I added all the vegetables to the broth and cooked, lid on, about fifteen min and so added the habaners and chicken. Keeping the lid on kept the flavors in and faster cooking. I thickened with a bit of the broth and cornmeal beginning stirred into a by. It came out nice and thick, zippo was soggy and only a scrap of warmth felt. yummy and just what I needed for my headache!
01/01/2003
I honey hot & spicy food. I did use 2 habanero peppers instead of four and the recipe was hot! I will definitely make again and will only apply i habanero. I likewise added one/4 c fresh chopped cilantro.
10/20/2004
I didn't notice this to exist thick enough to be stew, more of a soup really.
04/13/2007
This was really skilful. I take been looking for a hearty stew like I had in New Mexico, just this wasn't it. I will make information technology again though. Very good.
12/12/2010
I liked the recipe, just fabricated a few changes. I used boneless, skinless craven breasts, and added three bouillon cubes, to assistance add flavor. I also added 2 cans of green chiles and rotel tomatoes., but left out the habaneros. We really liked it, only side by side time I will add more than green chile.
11/28/2000
Very good.
12/12/2009
It was pretty good....I used bone in chicken thighs instead of a whole chicken. Didn't use habaneros as the store I went to didn't take them, then I used pickled jalepenos instead. It was a little bland for us, and then I added a little of the jalepeno juice and some fajita seasoning and it perked right up. I also omitted the flour since I liked the consistency it was.
04/12/2010
Great flavor, will brand again.
01/12/2011
I was skeptical about this recipe because of the habanero. My married man was and so sure that it was going to exist style too hot. When I chopped them up, I fabricated sure to exit all of the seeds. It left the soup with a nice little kick but not too much. Even my 18-month-old ate it!
02/03/2007
This was OK, but I was expecting light-green republic of chile, and this is something entirely different. I'd suggest leaving out the stewed tomatoes and going easy on the h2o. This might make a good burrito filling.
eleven/11/2009
This seems similar a lot of seasoning, but it was perfectly flavorful. I have to admit- I went a little crazy with this recipe: added a tin can of blackness beans, a can of foam of mushroom and then topped each bowl with some diced avocado and sour cream. I served it with buttered tortillas and information technology was out of this earth!
02/24/2003
This was good, no doubt--But if you lot are not careful all you taste is pepper!... I merely added 2 habanero peppers and it was besides hot! I had to tame it downwardly. Can't imagine what information technology would've been with 4! Next fourth dimension I volition only put 1. I put in the (optional) tomatoes, and besides used Chicken Seasoning/Bouillon to requite more flavor. Faint of heart beware! :)
01/21/2011
I thought this was really good! I did do things slightly different. I used turkey instead of chicken. I made a turkey dinner over new year's day's weekend and instead of picking the leftover turkey off the basic once we were washed eating on it, I just put the whole thing in the freezer. To make this stew, I pulled the leftover turkey out and made the broth with that. I followed the recipe for the rest, except the store simply had one habanero the day I went shopping, so I used one habanero, 1 very mild jalapeno and 3 medium hot serranos (slim pickins at the grocery shop that day!). My stew turned out thick and stew-like and very yummy. The just problem is, it made sooooo much. I retrieve next time, in one case I have fabricated the goop, I volition freeze 1/two of information technology and and so halve the residuum of the recipe. I'm afraid to freeze it in one case I've added the potatoes...I've never had luck freezing dishes with potatoes in them. I also think adjacent time I could add more tomatoes and dark-green chilies.
11/27/2002
Absolutely succulent but VERY SPICY, and I really like hot foods! Definitely cutting down on the peppers and add more every bit y'all taste. Very skillful though.
09/thirty/2009
Splendid base recipe and easily adjustable to make with what'southward already in the cupboard! I used boneless skinless craven breasts, bootleg canned turkey stock, poblano peppers (roasted first) and diced canned tomatoes with diced light-green chilies already in them. Cooking time was cut to ane-1/2 hrs. and the flavors were fantastic. We can't handle annihilation too spicy, but this had enough heat for pizazz while allowing all the other flavors to come through…like a actually good curry virtually!
09/xix/2002
This is sooooo gooooood! Everyone loved information technology. Nosotros like it meliorate with no tomatoes. Just rich, spicy craven stew!!
12/10/2006
I idea this was really good. Some of us ate it as soup, and some strained out the 'pork and veggie mixture and made tacos. I added a large can of hominy and cooked this in the crock pot. I also used a pork tenderloin, which shreds very easily when it has cooked in the crock pot. I cooked at high for half-dozen hours.
xi/04/2011
REally cracking recipe, only I leave out the tomatoes and add more green chilis.
11/01/2006
This is really delicious, but I made a variation that takes less time. I put everything in right at the kickoff and merely cooked information technology for one hour. Information technology seemed cooked plenty. Also I used fresh tomatoes, almost ane 1/ii cups fresh chile peppers (grilled, peeled & chopped), doubled all spices, garlic, and onion, and replaced cumin with curry powder that includes cumin.
02/11/2005
WOW!! This was wonderful! I used ii very large boneless craven breasts instead of a whole chicken and subbed two very large jalapenos with seeds instead of the habaneros. (Telephone call me a chicken!) It was merely right for me; husband added a little more hot sauce. Love the fact that it's more of a craven vegetable stew and doesn't contain beans as almost recipes do. Will most definitely make it over again!
11/xviii/2008
I would modify the name of this recipe to soup but it was succulent withal. Just a little too thin to call stew. I cooked it on Sabbatum and nosotros had it for dinner on Sunday. Information technology was delicious! We added some tortilla fries at the bottom and a sprinkle of jack cheese to the elevation. Everyone raved about it. I will definitely make this one over again...just a piffling spicier though! Update: Made this again tonight and although I didn't have the habanero peppers, it was delicious. I just added nearly 1/two cup of sliced jalapenos and a can of spicy Rotel. Beloved THIS RECIPE!!!
eleven/07/2010
I kept adding and adding and adding things hoping it would taste good. No luck. Definitely pass on this recipe.
03/23/2009
This was a great quick repast for dinner. I used a pocket-size fleck of green chile and omited the habanaros. At the end of the cooking fourth dimension I added a handbag of southwestern mixed vegtables.
09/06/2007
I wanted a change from my usual pork and light-green republic of chile stew, and this was fabulous! I added extra greenish chile, and made the recipe more brothy past calculation boosted water. I used pasta instead of potatoes, just because I was wanting a more spicy, soupy repast. It was delicious! Thanks for the post, Georgette!
xi/10/2007
Succulent...didn't take all ingredients on hand to make exactly every bit written, but had most; used half pinto beans and half potatoes. Didn't plan to use the habaneros because I thought they would exist too hot for me. I look frontward to making this again as written!
06/03/2011
This soup cracking! I fabricated this in a normal pot and used only 2 Habeneros. Information technology was all the same very spicy! I tin't imagine what it would have been like if I used 4. I didn't utilise the flour at the terminate because I didn't think it needed it. Served with a lime wedge and cilantro equally garnish. Definitely recommend!
06/11/2008
This is a great stew to warm y'all up on a cold winter twenty-four hour period.
12/29/2017
I make this often. I vary the heat based on who is going to consume information technology. I similar things face meltingly hot, and then I usually do 1 habenero (just one does the trick—I usually remove the seeds, only keep the membrane) and hot greenish republic of chile. Sometimes I utilise Serrano's or jalapeƱo to make information technology a little more palatable for others. I often use turkey leftovers after Thanksgiving and Christmas. I brand the stock separately and then add together cooked meat every bit a terminal footstep. Sometimes I cheat and utilise shop bought goop. I don't add the roux—it'southward more of a hearty soup that style, but I'm usually too lazy to get in thicker and I like it but besides.
05/04/2004
I love this recipe... not spicy enough added 2 extra peppers and now information technology'south perfect!
01/17/2005
Although the flavors were good, I had to add together a lot of cornstarch and flour to get this to thicken upward to exist even close to calling it a stew.
03/16/2014
YUMMY! I lived for many years in NM, this is shut to my *comfort nutrient* green chili chicken stew! I omit the habanero & utilize a cup of fresh roasted Hatch green chili. I am sometimes lazy & use a rotisserie chicken. Instead of patently stewed tomatoes, I utilise a tin can of spicy Ro-Tel. *hint* apply masa to thicken instead of flour. Pocket-size change, but OH makes the flavour ameliorate! Exist sure and serve with fresh, warm tortillas.
12/09/2003
I used all green chili peppers, medium, because I don't like hot. I also added some chili powder, onion pulverisation, a craven bouillon cube, and two cans of Rotel tomatoes instead of the stewed tomatoes. Served with cornbread. I similar to dissever my cornbread, lay it in the bottom of the bowl and ladle the stew over the cornbread.
01/31/2007
I dear this! I used craven breasts because they were on sale, and used the pressure cooker. Substituted jalapenos because I shared it with a friend who but had a baby, and she is not addicted of spicy foods. Next time I'll add the hotter peppers. As well, used corn starch rather than flour. Will make this again and once again! Thank you for sharing it!
01/10/2005
This was practiced. I feared the worst and used jalapenos instead of habeneros, simply actually, I probably would have liked it ameliorate a little more than spicy. So adjacent fourth dimension I will start off w/ one habenero and work up from there. I too added more than flour b/c I like my chicken stew thick. Thanks for the recipe!
03/23/2009
I backed manner off on the peppers and added some asperagrass. It was wonderful
11/17/2018
Really enjoyed this. I agree with other reviewers that it's much more than of a soup than stew but so tasty. I used two very large frozen chicken breasts. They were near 50% defrosted when I put them in the Instantpot on high for 45 minutes subsequently which they were falling autonomously and then easy to shred. I merely used ii habaneros because I was scared and the oestrus was very tolerable. I might upwardly it to 3 habaneros next fourth dimension. Also instead of water I used chicken broth because flavor. Make it your own with avo, cilantro, or sour foam on top. Yummm
05/15/2020
I cooked a whole chicken in my force per unit area cooker. I shredded all the meat and used all the juices for the base. I followed the test of the directions exactly as written, including the tin of tomatoes. This is a new favorite for my family and will definitely go into rotation!!
02/22/2006
My husband and I actually liked this meal! I couldn't find habanello peppers, so I used 2 pocket-size cans of jalapeno peppers and it turned out very spicy. Also spicy for the kids although they said they would similar it if it was toned down. I would accept given it 5 stars, and possibly should take, exist we are non existent big on soups or stew so when I brand this again I will probably serve information technology along with another principal dish.
08/31/2012
Great recipe..I added a tin of cream of celery soup and a tin can of corn niblets. No Habernero used red pepper as well as a sliced red pepper for color...Booyow! Gud eatin.
01/fourteen/2016
This was crawly! I made this with skinless, boneless chicken thighs. I used 3 habanero peppers since I had never had these before and the 7oz can of diced green chili peppers. I didn't take any marjoram and didn't employ the stewed tomatoes because I ran out of room in my force per unit area cooker! I wanted more of a soup so didn't thicken the juice with flour. I will definitely make this again!
12/09/2015
This was some of the best green chile stew I have ever made. I happened to have a Costco roasted chicken at paw, so I didn't take to cook the craven. Then, instead of calculation a roux afterward, I sauteed the onions and garlic in some olive oil, added the flour, heated it all up, and added my craven broth. I and so threw in everything else (along with a couple of cans of Herdez) and 30 minutes afterwards I had this wonderful stew. I didn't add the chile, as there are some in my family unit who don't like it, and so I just fix the chile (I didn't use habenero, equally my dark-green chile is hot enough) on the table and nosotros added what nosotros wanted. I'chiliad a native New Mexican (yet living hither) then I have fabricated my share of green chile stews, but this is the best, at least for craven.
03/17/2014
I remember I would have given this more of a 4.5 score. It was really good. I used ane jalapeno instead of the habanero peppers. Too spicy for the kids to eat just my married man and I really enjoyed it.
09/17/2015
This was a very flavorful dish! I used some fresh Hatch chiles for the estrus, and added a bit of fresh cilantro and some chicken bullion to boost the flavour, only otherwise stuck very close to the ingredient list here. I practise hold with a couple of other reviewers who added the veggies during the cooking period for the chicken - much easier than the 2 distinct stages. And I did notice that I needed to add together more than flour at the stop to go any thickening, but that's to be expected since no one is going to have exactly the aforementioned amount of chicken or size pot, and so the amount of h2o needed to comprehend the craven volition vary. It'southward a uncomplicated plenty adjustment.
07/26/2017
Made this for my family. It was a striking! I cheated and used craven broth; used chicken breast that I chopped into stew size pieces; added an actress can of dark-green chili; and I added skillful quality New Mexico green chili powder instead of habanero. I would accept liked to make the soup goop over a long flow of time to go that unbeatable chick soup flavor simply I didn't accept time to cook for that long. Even with my cheats, the result was awesome. The utilize of the chicken broth really saved me a lot of time. If you're pressed for time, get for it. I will definitely brand this once again.
07/18/2016
I have fabricated this over and over again! My family unit requests information technology each time and they honey it!
11/fourteen/2013
Mixed reviews at our house, volition exist a ane-timer
11/27/2016
I used half dozen jalapenos instead of habaneros. I used up the Thanksgiving turkey and used chicken broth in identify of a whole chicken. I also used 3/4/ loving cup flour for a thicker stew. Great flavor with a bit of a kicking!
